I have been in Liverpool for almost a week now and although Eve-Online has gone through a rough patch after they released a patch (get it?) on Tuesday 11th Septermber. Even with these problems, I was unable to connect between 17:00-23:00 or 00:00 every day to the game. At first I thought it was something to do with the patch but I was still able to “Authenticate” but not able to get any further than that.
Trying to figure out the problem has been annoying. Since it started at 17:00ish lots of things happened then.
After googling the problem, it seemed Eve-Online has lots of login problems and I had to eliminate them one by one.
After 2 days of pondering and 1 day of practical work, I have finally narrowed it down to the problem:
ISP
I have been looking around to using a proxy and got an SSH tunnel to my server at home. Volia it works. There isn’t a large amount of lag but it does it longer to login.
Create an SSH connection. I used putty with the tunnel settings:
source port: 26000
destination: 87.237.38.200:26000make sure it “Local” is selected
IP protocol version to: AutoConnect to the remote server. Start Eve-Online.
In the server drop down list where it says “Tranquility” delete the the selected server and type in “localhost” (without the quotes). Now proceed as normal by typing in your login information. The server message and player count should appear once the serve list box is de-selected.
Interesting, tunnelling over ssh does have its benefits!
