SimCity Won’t Start

I’ve been playing SimCity 2013 on EA Origin system and the game consistently starts fine (besides the server issues).

Today suddenly the game won’t even start. Launching it from Origin a dialog box appears saying Launching SimCity… but disappears and nothing happens. Hovering the mouse over the game in the My Game section has the Play button enabled again meaning it’s not running.

Deleting the user data folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData forces the game to re-download the files again when the game is started again. Be aware that deleting the folder also wipes any user settings for the game including the tutorials/tips that has already been displayed.

It should not affect the saved game as this resides on the EA / Maxis servers.
