Performance Between Hard Drives

I was amazed by some very basic tests how 2 hard drives (Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB) of the same model can have such a difference in performance. The two drives I had were purchased at difference times but it shows for some reason the newer model is faster than the older one. The newer one also has been used a lot more but only by coincidence.

Whilst Benchmark scores are not always reflective of real life usage, I conducted this test because I thought one drive was drastically slower than another. I was amazed to find they were the same make and model drives. They both were tested using the same cable on the same port on the motherboard.
