Install UniFi Controller On Ubuntu 16.04

Overview

The Ubiquiti networking gear comes with a Java controller software to provision the hardware. It’s called the Unfi controller. Because it’s a Java application it can run on any Java compatible system so in my case I wanted to leave it running on a Linux box, Ubuntu to be more specific. I tried to install it on 14.04 but it failed to start.

Download the software from the Ubiquiti website. It should be a .deb file.

Install the file
sudo dpkg -i [file path/name]

Replace [file path/name] with the actual file.

https://localhost:8443

It should be created as a service so you can stop and start it as per usual with the service name ubiquity for example:
sudo service ubiquity start

Summary

The installation is very easy. The upgrade process should be the same as well.
