My pc died when I went back for the weekend. It sucked because I was looking forward to gaming but low and behold the sucker died! I was probably so pissed I could punch my mum!
Worked it out to be the PSU because there was a weird noise coming from it as if there was electricity leak so I replaced that with my old and reliable Antec PSU. I replaced the PSU (with a lot of frustration) and it turned on for about 3 seconds before the power went. It was probably a short or something. Turned off everything and tried it again and this time it booted. However there was a strange ticking noise coming from one of the HDD. This is wear I poo’d myself. All my data was backed up but only to a certain extent. I know I should know better.
I went round to see the monitor and it was good. XP booted to the login screen and as I went to type the power was lost again. Turned off all the power and started again. This time the HDD kept spinning up, stopping clicking and so on. The screen was also showing aftifacting. At this point I was prying my data would be alright.
I went through the whole thing of taking out the mobo and *tried* to screw it back onto the copper things but the damn case was being gay and was too stiff to screw in or the hole was too big that it didnt screw in no more and jus popped straight in and out. I managed to screw in two screws to the copper things but it wasn’t able to support the motherboard if the case was turned upright.
In the end I lost:
Going to try and plug in one of the HDD on my Linux box. Hopefully I can get most of my data back!
