Nokia Buys Symbian

Recently Nokia has intended to buy out the rest of the shares held by other parties in the company. Whilst it is not the greatest OS it does get the job done. The problem I have had with Symbian on my Nokia was stability. Analysts are seeing it as a potential software battle ground with Android looming at the end of this year (so they say) and iPhone getting a head start with the 3G iPhone and the iPhone 2.0 update. I’d like to inject OpenMoko with the first consumer ready phone release aimed for this year.

It seems hardware has gotten to the point where it’s become more or less a level playing field and it’s all coming down to the experience and majority of experience comes from the software side. Hopefully this means more jobs for software developers.
