Joby Gorillapod Go-Go

Gorillapod Package

Gorillapod Package

I ordered the Gorillapod on Saturday bank holiday weekend and it got shipped the same day from California. I paid extra for the delivery only because I got a 10% discount. Fedex shipped it out of the US early Monday and it arrived in Stansted, UK the same day! With it being a bank holiday I thought I’d get it couple of extra days but it arrived on Tuesday! I know I’m using a lot of exclamation marks but it’s because of the speed! It was a shame I was in Stevenage for over a week.

The package comes with two sticky pad mounts, one screw mount and one suction cup mount. The mounts slide onto the universal adapter and you can buy additional ones if you need to. The mounts are fairly small so it probably would not fit something like an SLR camera.

After sliding the mount into the adapter, there is a locking ring which slides from unlock to lock position and vise-versa. The ring is very unobtrusive and is flush with the rest of the ball joints. The push release clip is small yet comfortable to push. The locking ring locks the push release clip so when it is locked, the clip does not push in to release the mount from the adapter.

The ball joint legs will stay in place unless you move it. It’s not too stiff except the for the joints between the adapter and where the three legs join into one. I tried to rotate the adapter so that the iPhone was perpendicular to me but had to grab the unit hard to twist the top ball joints.

The ball joints are made of plastic with rubber inserts and rubber feet covers. The unit is light and portable because you can shape the feet to how you want it. Just like the site I immediately tried to wrap the legs around everything to see if it would hold the camera or iPhone in places.

I do worry about the small mounts. They can easily be lost and Joby does not offer replacement ones except for the camera mount. I can confirm that Joby will be releasing the Go-Go mounts in two months time.

I love this, i heard about it when the 1st Gen iPhone came out, i’m sure Andy Ihnatko has talking about it as an amazing stand when in an aeroplan! Completely forget about about it, looks more practical than other stands. Let me know how you get on.

It is good. I have found the suction cup doesn’t hold the iPhone 3G as well. It would often fall off and if you have it mounted so that it’s vertical or some where near that it would not hold it. Lucky it was on a table when I found this out. Yet I still use it as an iPhone stand…

It is very good for cameras because the mount actually screws in.

I haven’t used the sticky pad mounts yet. Not sure what I would use permanently that needs one.
