iPhone Purchase Experience
I know it’s a bit late but with no access to the Internet there was no point posting new articles which people can’t read.
10th July 2008
The day before the launch of the new iPhone was when I decided to get one. It was a last minute thing and I knew Toby and Dave was going to get one. Dave and I decided to meet at the Arndale Centre at 7:30 and the shopping centre where the O2 shop was should open at 7:45. The O2 doesn’t open / start selling the iPhone till 8:02. Toby was going to meet up with us later on assuming we were still in the queue and then head straight to work.
Terina had decided she would come as well even though she had a 5 hour drive back home (which turned out to be nearer 7 hours).
11th July 2008
The day of the launch. I had woken up un-intensionally at 5:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I went on the Internet till about 7:00 when my alarm was set to wake up. We got ready and left for town to get there for just before 7:30. It was amazing. Great parking spots, hardly anyone around and no iPhone fans outside the front door.
Dave came (eventually) with his cool bed hair.
As soon as the doors opened we were in and I decided not to run becuase I couldn’t see a lot of people. Dave had other ideas but didn’t run in the end. When we got round the corner there was already a queue! They had opened another door first! I estimated we were about 15th person in line. We waited it out and talked to the people in front of us and Dave was also on the radio which caught the attension of an O2 staff member.
When 8:00 rolled around the assisstant manager gave us general information of what would happen like only 2-3 people allowed in at a time, it will be on sale from 8:02, etc, etc. It took a while for the first person to walk out of the O2 store with an iPhone but after the first pair their systems went down and took even longer for the second lot to come out.
We were handed various goodies like sweets and biscuits for free.

It wasn’t till 9:30 when we got into the store and sat on the stall. Dave and I was offered a beveridge and asked us a few questions before going to a sales staff. This was when all the details were put in along with credit checks and what tarriff and iPhone model we wanted. This took 30 minutes from sitting with the sales member to paying for the iPhone at the front desk.

It wasn’t till Saturday evening when I turned my phone off and on again when they had activated my sim. At last I was on the O2 network.

I decided to port my number from my pay as you go sim to my new iPhone contract. I decided not to port my number on the day because I still had some credit and free minutes left on it. The process was very easy despite the fact I didn’t know my new contract telephone number. I used my contract sim serial number instead which was printed on my contract.
