Everyday Carry – Extended 2019
Overview
This is an update to the extended layer in my Everyday Carry (EDC). The concept and use of the extended layer remains the same i.e builds on top of the core layer designed to last up to a day away from home. To see what the previous extended layer of my EDC click here.

1. Peak Design Tech Pouch
The Tech Pouch from Peak Design has replaced the dry bag I use to use. It is definitely more professional looking and a lot more expensive (approximately £30 more). However, it adds many more convenience factors compared to the dry bag. For example the organisational pockets are great for putting all the small items in different places. The accordion opening on the pouches mean everything fans open for easy view and access. It can double up as a tiny day bag using additional Peak Design straps (which I am considering). The volume this bag carries is exactly the same as the out going dry bag (2 litres).
2. Anker PowerLine+ USB C
Long USB C to USB C cable to be compatible with as many Power Delivery charges and devices where possible. The cable is a good length as a bed side charging cable and also it’s braided for strength. It is expensive for a cable however the build quality will hopefully mean it will last a while.
3. Asus USB 2 Charger
A charger that came with the Nexus 7 and I have been using it since as a spare USB 2.0 charger.
4. Anker Multi-Angle Stand
I lost the Moko phone stand so it has been replaced with the (arguably) over engineered Anker phone stand. It has a button at the top on the side where the hinge is to release the lock of the stand with various lockable angles. It’s made of metal with rubber pads to make sure it does not scratch the phone and gives it a slight grip so it doesn’t slide off. Two problems with the stand: 1. it’s quite a bit heavier than the plastic Moko stand; 2: there is a lip at the bottom which can cover part of the screen.
5. TechRise USB C Adapter
No change on the USB A to USB C adapter so please view the 2017 post for more details.
6. Mu One
A flat 45w USB C wall charger which has interchangeable heads so you don’t need to use adapters abroad.
7. TicWatch E USB Charging Cable
Spare cable so that it can stay in the EDC bag for those overnight situations.
8. Micro USB Cable (6ft)
A generic USB A to micro USB to charge a phone using the above battery pack. A ~1 metre cable is long enough for this level of use. For example dangling the cable out of one pocket to another to charge a phone.
9. Micro USB Cable (9ft)
A longer cable for bed side charging.
10. Anker 2nd Gen Astro3 12800mAh
The battery from Anker is still going strong. Please go to the 2017 post for more details.
Removed Items
3. Anker SoundBuds Slim
I still use the bluetooth earphones however they have moved into my core / work layer. More details to follow on where this ends up.
2 ltr Karrimor Dry Bag
Replaced by the Peak Design Tech Pouch.
Summary
The biggest change is the bag. Whilst it has the same volume as the previous bag, the design and rigidity makes it feel much larger and I don’t have to dig through the bag to get the items at the bottom. It still has more pockets and space to add more items in the future.
