Everyday Carry – Work 2018
Overview
This details the Core layer of my EDC as per the model defined in my previous post. This builds on top of the core layer but I have not integrated the work carry with the extended layer.
Work Carry
I won’t include work specific equipment and only include my own tools and equipment.

1. Tissues
Just in case and for those colder seasons.
2. CGID Polarised Wayfarer Sunglasses
Basic pair of sunglasses for those unexpected days of sunshine. These are light weight and do not take up much space.
3. Deodorant
Covers a long hard physical day or just a really hot one. A travel sized can is ideal in case you need to go abroad with this EDC.
4. Goji G4PLSV17C
A 5200mAh USB battery pack. It’s small capacitor can typically charge a phone 1.5-2 times so good enough if you’re out and caught short. It has an integrated holder for a short micro USB cable with a lightening adapter. It was a adhoc purchase when I forgot my other battery packs however the best thing is it supports pass through charging – where you can charge the battery pack and it can also charge a mobile device at the same time.
5. Pain Killers
For those days you need to just plough on.
6. Knirps FiberT2 Duomatic
Compact and well built umbrella that can be stowed away in a bag ready when needed. The automatic release and open is a bonus for one handed operation if you are also carrying something else.
7. TechRise USB C Adapter
An update to my Core EDC for 2018 is that I’ve changed from an iPhone 6s to a Pixel 2 which uses a USB C cable. This is great for charging speeds however accessories as of writing is still very expensive for reliable sources of cables without causing damage to the phone. Whilst I’m waiting for the supply to increase to lower the prices I am using these small adapters so I can reuse the abundance of micro USB cables. I don’t get the fast charging that comes with USB C but far better value for money at this time. I was surprised to find these adapters also pass through the data pins so it can be used on a computer to access the media on the phone.
8. Micro USB Cable
A generic USB A to micro USB to charge a phone using the above battery pack. A 1 metre cable is long enough to reach the plug on the desk to the device.
9. Logitech K810
I’ve had this since 2014 and started carrying this on a regular basis this year. It has help reduce the amount of cables I had to plug into my computer and reduce the need for a USB hub as well. The battery lasts for up to a work week which is ideal and it can be charged using a micro USB cable. It’s fairly light weight and the profile is very slim so it doesn’t take up that much space in the bag. The backlit keys are bonus but I haven’t needed them for work (yet).
10. Logitech M705
Another long lasting (and well the money spent) tech purchase back from 2014. I like the high back support on the palm shape but this is a personal preference. Another advantage is it takes 2 AA batteries so if I ran out I could go to the shop to replace them quickly if I needed to however they last so long that I’ve only done this maybe twice. The down side is it adds weight to the mouse and the sensor is not as good as some others equipped with darkfleid laser. I did have a situation where I was presenting from a transparent podium and the mouse was unable to track on the surface.
11. Samsonite Pro-DLX 4 Business Briefcase M
Flexible bag to carry everything in if they cannot fit on my person. The bag can keep the delicate electronics dry if it was in the rain. The clip at the top forms a hoop for easy carry or it can be attached to your belt or bag externally.
Summary
This setup has been fairly stable with updated equipment as time has gone on. There are some really durable items that have stood the test of time like the mouse although it is showing it’s age now. Like supporting Bluetooth and / or Logitech universal receiver and being able to support more than 1 paired device. Bluetooth would free up a USB port with laptops nowadays aiming for thin and light which means there are also less USB ports.
