Double Wear OS Watch Lifestyle

Overview

Black Friday 2018 was kind to me and the TicWatch E dropped below £90. At the time, TicWatch Pro is Mobvi’s top of the line watch with better specs however I already had the E and the predominate reason for getting another one was to share charging cable and same hardware. The main reason to get a second watch is for sleep tracking. The battery life on the watch lasts a day max and I wanted to replace my Fitbit for sleep tracking (more details to follow).

Pairing

The Wear OS app on Android supports multiple watches right out of the box! Setup was easy (just like adding your first watch) and beyond that everything else that needs configuring is the watch itself.

Watch Setup

Each watch is treated as a standalone watch. What I mean by this is that any apps, settings, etc on an existing watch does not sync to other watches so each one can be set up for specific purposes if you wanted.

Gotchas

Be aware of doubling up on data for example in sleep tracking it was getting movement readings from both devices, giving an odd reading of sudden movements to still. Notifications where also coming throw twice when the two watches are next to each other.

To combat this, I put the charging watch onto airplane mode whilst I wear the other to sleep. During the day, I have both connected if they are near by but otherwise I haven’t seen any other issues with 2 phones paired at the same time. I think it also helps that I’m not wearing both at the same time because I don’t know how heart rate monitoring works with double readings.

Summary

Android and it’s ecosystem seems supports multiple watches running WearOS really well with complex situations like the sleep tracking to contend with.
