Barclays PINsentry

Barclays has issued me a calculator device called PINsentry for doing online stuff. It’s used to log into my online account as well as setting up online transfers.

PINsentry Unit

Upon inserting the card, the screen lights up with three options:

* Identify – Used to login oline
* Respond – Not used
* Sign – Online transfers

These correspond to the top blue keys on the calculator (PINsentry).

After clicking on one of the options, it asks for the card pin before the unit generates a number which has to be keyed onto the web form. The number changes everytime when I have used it.

The two problems I can see with using PINsentry is that I use to be able to log into my online banking website from anywhere but now I need this device as well as making online transactions.

Second is it is powered by a battery which can run out at any time. It uses four! LR44 which is the watch batteries.
