Apple iPhone 3G Dock

Overview

This is the first dock I bought for my phone. It has the Apple X factor with it’s sleek and minimalistic design. Also I thought getting a dock would let me connect the iPhone to the computer easily and keep it upright so I could use it whilst it was charging.

The Dock

The dock has the iPod connector and a line out jack. You’d use the cable which came with your iPhone to connect the computer to the dock. The base is weighted but not enough in my opinion. In order to disconnect the phone from the dock, you need to hold down the base. I wanted the phone to un-dock itself when I pick up the phone.

The shape of the cut out area where the iPhone 3G sits is sculpted to the iPhone. It sits in very well and has no problems keeping the iPhone upright. The dock only fits the iPhone 3G but cannot confirm if it fits the first iPhone. It definitely does not fit an iPod 5th Gen with Video.

The base does not let you to adjust the angle of the iPhone so if you need to access your phone and the table is lower than the height of your head then you will need to bend down to use it.

Summary

I would not get the dock considering there are better alternatives like the PED3 or if there was a decent holder for the Gorillapod system.
