200W > 500W Is Not A Good Idea

I bought one of those tiny halogeon bulbs for my room because the old one blew and decided I wanted the light to be brighter. Well Without thinking I wanted a 400W but Tescos didn’t have any. They only had 200, 300 and 500 watts. So I opted for the 500W. Low and behold it started to make weird noises like something was cracking or heating up.

I turned the light off and the glass was really hot. I left it for an hour or two and slid the glass off to reveal the bulb. Everything looked fine. This morning I turned it on again to see if it was o.k but after a few seconds it blew. Now I have to go to a big tescos to get another one!

Lesson learned.
